Final Ceremony!

Hi girls!

We hope you're all well. We haven't heard anything from you guys about the showcase so it's best if we just focus on the final ceremony which we want to have on 30th June in the afternoon.
We want to have a nice dinner where we celebrate everything you have accomplished this year. Could you all please get back to us about confirming that you are available on the 30th and that you want to attend. If it's easier we can come to your school to arrange details but you still have to let us know that this is what you prefer and when this would be convenient.

Dear Girls,

The ceremony will be held in June. Please let us know when you finish your exams so we can plan the ceremony around you!

Dear Girls,

I'm sorry we have been late in responding to you about the showcase. We have heard that the school said you can no longer hold the show case at the school. This does not mean that the show has to be cancelled. We want you to think this week about why you wanted to put the showcase up in the first place and whether it's still important to you? If you still want to put it up, think about other places you could hold the showcase? Will you need to change the date or can you hold it on the same date. On Wednesday, we will talk to you about PERSEVERANCE.

What's happening with A21?!!!

Hi Girls,

Ms. Bradshaw let us know that the school has approved your talent showcase. CONGRATULATIONS.
We are so excited. Although, we were expecting updates about how you are getting on with the show, so leave a comment or send an e-mail. Also I have contracted Fashion Awareness Direct and we are in the process finding a designer to provide outfits for the show!!!  It's the 4th of March and you want to put up the show in 25 days!!!! Here's a number of things to think about

1. Marketing - 
1. You need to design the flyers and posters by Wednesday  and start getting the message out
2. You could all change your facebook profile pictures to the A-21 logo to get people asking questions
3. This is the time to start going into assemblies? Think about how you will present in assemblies, sometimes a taster performance can be effective.
4. We need the T-Shirt designs soon, so we can start sort out the printing.
2. Creative
1. You need to identify who will perform- dancers, spoken word, rap, comedians etc
2. Is there going to be a theme throughout the performance?
3. When will you have rehearsals? If it's on weekends and school isn't open, where will this be?
3. Food Committee - Most of it comes down to the actual day

On wednesday, it would be GREAT to see concrete results! 

New A-21 single!!!!

Canary Wharf Trip 15th February

On a chilly Wednesday during half term, Team RAISE decided to take our mission outside of the classroom and into the exciting and surprisingly close world of business and commerce: Canary Wharf. The day began with a visit to Credit Suisse, one of Europe's largest commercial and investment banks. We were given a boardroom on the 7th floor to discuss project management for the upcoming talent show and then given an insight and tour around the investment bank.

Once the serious stuff was over we then headed off to a much anticipated Nando's (!) followed by a cool skate at the Canary Wharf ice rink, not to mention a rather embarrassing singsong...

All in all the day turned out to be quite a success with all the girls really getting a sense of the various career opportunities in the financial industry, with a thorough insight into the glamour and gruelling work factors of City life!

Working with animals

I found a few things out about what qualifications and experience would be useful for those of you interested in working with animals! Here are some of the links which seem to be most useful!

The last one looks particularly helpful with giving you information on what qualifications you need to have to eligible to apply for the program and what you can do with a qualification in Animal science and Management in the long run!

Also if you are interested in work experience - Mayhew Animal Home offers work experience for young people and where you can get pretty hands on experience. If you need help with your cover letter or need us to read over the email, we are very willing to help.

Volunteering

Hi Ladies,

Last week, we talked about writing your CV and how to sell the skills you have like team work, organisational or interpersonal skills. We looked at the different careers you were interested in and talked about the skills specific to those careers. We found that the skills you need to be successful are very transferable. Both a doctor and an image consultant need to have interpersonal skills so their customers/patients keep coming back.

We then focused on communication skills with the desert island game. There were some great speeches and good responses to the tough questions from the panel. Well done girls!

This week we will be talking about volunteering and we will be thinking about various ways you can get involved. For this session, I would just like you to think of an answer to this question:

Happy New Year Girls!

2012 will be such an awesome year for you ladies. You finish your GCSEs this year and start your A-Levels. Not to scare you too much, but how you do at this stage will have a big impact on the rest of your life. Employers will look at your GSCE and your A-Level results for consistent academic achievement.

After our first meeting, we asked you what you wanted to get out of RAISE. Some people said motivation, others career direction and for some, they wanted networking opportunities. We will try to make this all possible. The key thing is that the change you want, starts with YOU. Success won't come to you, YOU have to go after it. Opportunities don't just come, you create them.

They say it takes 30 days to make a habit…so as we start the year, think carefully about what goals you want to achieve this year. Share them below if you like, and we'll work on keeping them!

We look forward to seeing you in January, and spread the word to those girls who couldn’t make the first session…that we start on the 11th of January!
